Ahhh,
exercise
motivation. The key ingredient to gettin' our butts a
movin'! Here you'll find some motivators that are quick and
easy
(music, footage). I'll also provide some other ways to get
inspired which can be a great benefit.
I have included a
recording of myself explaining how to get closer to the core of what
REAL motivation can feel like - getting some more internal motivation
one might say! So if you're keen to delve a little deeper I
strongly advice you to click on the play button at the bottom of the page!
Music
This
pretty much is a given. And whatever floats your boat...
Technology is awesome these days. Taking an ipod on your run
or
to the gym, listening to music at home as you're getting changed or on
the way to your training session in the car. Use the
appropriate
music to get you inspired, motivated, angry, or whatever it is you need!
Train with a friend
Ok,
now we are getting closer to the core here. Rather than a
quick
lift for exercise motivation from music or footage, now we are looking at support. I
suggest you agree with a friend to meet at a specific time, on specific
days to train. You'll be creating a commitment with each
other,
and an expectation for the other person to be there. Two
powerful
motivators in this regard. Not only that, you have a like
minded
individual to support your goals, and it's amazing how much
further you can push yourself with someone next to you.
Group and organised training
This
can involve group fitness classes within a gym, outdoor group training
classes, bootcamps etc. Similar to training with a friend,
you
are mixing with like minded people trying to achieve similar
goals. With other people around, it helps to raise your
energy
levels. and you have the added benefit of an instructor to push you.
Personal Training
This is a pretty obvious choice for exercise motivation. Here are a list of benefits:
Regular appointments (commitment!)
Motivation directed from the trainer to you, specifically
Individualised nutritional advice
On hand education when you need it
Set Goals
You hear it all the time... Set your goals. So rather than
bore you, I'll keep it simple:
When
you set a goal, your plan to achieve it immediately unfolds.
When
you set a specific date, you have a time line. When that date
gets closer and closer it can provide just enough pain (what a
fantastic motivator!!) to kick your butt in to action!
And
speaking of pain being a powerful motivator, have a listen to a
'Conversations with the Coach' audio newsletter I have recorded in
relation to tapping in to your 'internal' motivation. Click
