Tough Bloke (& chick) Challenge 2009 - Clients & friends compete (and have loads of fun!)
Ahhhh well the cold wet and windy weather that Melbourne has been having managed to hold off for the challenge!
Even though it was called the Tough 'Bloke'
Challenge there were PLENTY of chicks. To this day I still can't
figure out what the marketing department are doing naming the event the
way they have. Ah well.
What was involved?? Well to
put it simply, it was a fun day out where we were set the challenge to
run a short cross country course (approx 3km) and then make our way
through a number of man made obstacles.
Quite a difficult course
actually. The initial run had a few hills that really shock the
system, but for the ultimate slap in the face was a mud pit we had to
crawl through first (yes, crawl... to keep under the barb wire hanging
precariously low!). I have never ran a cross country course
saturated in cold and heavy mud! Quite an experience really.
Added a whole new dimention to running... if you thought running
wasn't un-natural enough already!
From there followed a little
more running, and then on to 8 or so obstacles which involved
balancing, crawling, jumpin over, climbing through, crawling
under, and swinging from.
In
the end they decided to erect 2 tower with a thick rope attaching them.
The finale was to hand and make your way across the rope (see
pics below). I learned the lesson at this stage that if I were to
do this event next year, short shorts are not the best option!
Good fun. Well done to the
REALMers who had a go. And for those who didn't there's always
the next event. If you are ever weary that these events might not
be up your alley, I really encourage you to have a go. It's good,
healthy fun!
Here's a few pics we got:
 Beginning - Clean!

Anticipating the start!
Hmmm, what does that sign say exactly?
End - Dirty as!
Director at REALM becomes a finalist in industry awards
Director
at REALM TRAINING - (myself!) recently became a finalist in the awards
presented by the fitness industry's regulatory body - Fitness Australia.
The awards are held to recognise individuals and businesses for their achievement and success throughout the year in 2009.
There were 180 entrants across 5 categories. I managed to make the top three in the Victorian exercise professional of the Year category.
Throughout the application process, these were the main points that helped myself, and the REALM, across the line:
- Close attention to the REALM customer experience and it's integrity (the most valuable and important thing within the REALM)
- Ability to
provide a wealth of health and fitness information to the public for
free, via the REALM website that I've spent THOUSANDS of hrs building,
having known nothing about website development before I began
- My devotion to
raising professional standards in our industry by providing and
excellent service (the REALM experience), providing more than the
average personal trainer (group training, and health coaching), and in
the near future, provide the foundation for younger trainers to excel
at what they do through my business
So there it is. The REALM news this time round.
Hope you've enjoyed. See you at the next challenge!!

April/May 09 News and Events
HAPPY EASTER!!
We are well and truely in to 2009 and REALM TRAINING clients are well and truely making progress.
RUN FOR THE KIDS The run for the kids
was a huge success for Melbourne with 30 thousand entrants and proceeds
going to a very worthy cause. It was also a huge success for
REALM clients who entered.
As you may be aware there were
2 options - the 5.7km, or 14.1km. REALM had a number of clients
entered for both categories. A special mention to those who
previously struggled with a 3km run, and quite convincingly pulled off
the 5.7. Absolutely awesome effort.
If you are struggling to come to grips with running a certain distance, maybe it's time to have a listen to my last audio... Beliefs My
condolences to the small number of you who had entered but were injured
and therefore couldn't take part... you know who you are, and I was
running for you as well as the kids!
REALM CLIENT BENEFITS I
have been working hard to add value to REALM clients and develope
relationships with quality local business at the same time. Your REALM TRAINING key ring (which you'll be receiving soon as a valued client of REALM TRAINING) entitles you to benefits as outlined on this page. Please help support our local business and affiliatians with the REALM!
REALM GROUP TRAINING I think I have done one of the hardest things possible in the fitness industry, & that is to start up outdoor group training sessions
coming in to winter! After a long layoff from group sessions to
focus on Personal Training, the REALM is returning to group sessions
and developing programs for versatility and variety as an alternative,
or addition to Personal Training.
'Take action with your fitness' is
well under way with a small group of go-getters braving the morning
chill. Base fitness levels have been established with the first session
comprising of a lovely beep test, push up and sit up test.
'Punch your way in to a fit 2009'
will be starting this Tuesday 21st April. To those who are
registered, you can also look forward to a refreshing beep test first
up before we punch away the morning sleep in our eyes!
Keep an look out on REALM's Group Training page for more classes soon.
I hope everyone had an awesome Easter break, see you out on the track!

TRAINING has now moved
We have moved to a brand new facility in Mind and Body.
As you all know by now, the facility is top notch with heaps
of room to move and I really look forward to training everyone there.
I still have to figure out how to use the Wii to see if it
will may be suitable in a possible circuit!
The move to Mind and Body marks REALM TRAINING's evolution as a

Dec
08 News and Events
Welcome to Dec 08 Realm Training News and Events. Let me tell you this... I
have been to many events - fun runs, triathlons, adventure races
etc -
and not too many occasions have I been driving to
such an
event in torrential rain and 30-40km/hr winds! This is the
type of
weather that set the scene for the end of year fun run for REALM
TRAINING go getters who made it down to Williamstown Foreshore for the
5 or 10km fun runs.
Thankfully the rain actually held off for the duration of the fun run
and depending on what part of the loop you were on for the run, the
howling wind gave runners a great little push from behind, or was a
major pain in the butt when running in to it head on!
Congratulations to those who made it there. For most who came
down it was their first fun run, and despite the weather everyone made
it across the finish line.
Results, race report, and
photo's can be found on the Srin Chinmoy website by clicking here.
Please be patient, it may take a few days for the results to
get up on the website.

The REALM TEAM! Fun runners who braved the conditions.
Well done!

08 News
and Events
What’s on
the agenda for REALM TRAINING news and events? Well, the
festive season is approaching us quicker than we can say ‘Christmas
lunch!’ As we get busier and busier during these times our
priorities can change form a little. Christmas shopping,
organizing and attending Chrissy parties can take precedence over our
health and fitness regime. We can very easily fall out of
great training routines we may have established.
To help
push through the hard slog coming in to Christmas, REALM TRAINING has
organized clients to enter in to a fun run. Yes, you did hear
right… ‘Fun’ and ‘Run’ in the same sentence!
